Georgie Friedman has lived, worked and exhibited nationally and internationally. She has traveled to five continents to film for her projects and has been awarded a number of grants and fellowships including: Artist Traveling Fellowship to Antarctica (SMFA/Tufts, 2017); Artist-in-Residence with The City of Boston, Boston AIR (2016) - supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts; Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Fellowship in Sculpture/Installation (2013) and MCC Finalists Grants in Sculpture/Installation/New Genres (2021) and Film/Video (2019).
Friedman has been commissioned to create site-specific video-based public art pieces and has exhibited in national and international venues including: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA (solo, 2019); Oregon Center for Contemporary Art (solo, 2024); Emerson College, MA (solo, 2021); The Geneva International Film Festival, Switzerland (2017); The Cleveland Museum of Art, OH (2016); Muratcentoventidue Artecontemporanea, Bari, Italy (2018; 2019; 2020); Georgetown University, DC (solo, 2019); Boston City Hall 鈥 exterior, MA (2017); Union College, NY (solo, 2016); Shelburne Museum, VT (2016); Lesley University College of Art and Design, MA (solo, 2015); College of the Holy Cross, MA (solo, 2015); Transylvania University, KY (2013); and The Armory Center for the Arts, CA (2013); The Rose Kennedy Greenway in partnership with the National Park Service, MA (2012); Peabody Essex Museum, MA (2011鈥2012); deCordova Sculpture Park & Museum, MA (2010).
Friedman earned her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in conjunction with Tufts University and her BA from UC, Santa Cruz. Her past teaching appointments include: Art, Culture and Technology program, MIT; Massachusetts College of Art and Design; The School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University; among other institutions. In 2023, she was invited to become a board member for Boston Cyberarts.鈥
