Richard Shaughnessy performs on both modern and period clarinets. He has played with the Handel & Haydn Society, Emmanuel Music, the Arcadia Players, the Worcester Orchestra and Boston Baroque, and currently freelances with many other Boston area ensembles. In Europe he has performed at the Edinburgh Festival, and has played concerts in Paris and Frankfurt. He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Nashua (NH) Symphony, where he was principal clarinet. He often participates in chamber music recitals at Boston College and elsewhere, and can be heard on several recordings, including the first recording of Siegfried Karg-Elert鈥檚 Jugend (Youth), for flute, clarinet, horn and piano, Ralf Yusuf Gawlick's Kinderkreuzzug, and a newly released recording of Haydn's The Creation with Boston Baroque. Mr. Shaughnessy teaches clarinet and chamber music at Boston College, the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and the All Newton Music School, where is also head of the wind, brass, and percussion department. In addition, he coaches clarinet and woodwind sections at the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, and is on the faculty of the BYSO Music Camp in Sidney, ME. His former students have attended Juilliard, New England Conservatory of Music, The Boston Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, and other major professional schools.
