James Sweeney

James Sweeney is State Trial Counsel with the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General. 听He has been with the Attorney General鈥檚 Office for over 25 years, previously serving as Deputy Chief of the Trial Division, Chief of the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Office and as an Assistant Attorney General in the Trial Division. 听He has handled a wide range of civil litigation cases, through all phases of pleadings, discovery, motion practice, trials and appeals. 听

Sweeney has been Co-Director of the Boston College Law School Attorney General Clinical Program and Seminar with Prof. Thomas Barnico since 2011. 听He is also a faculty member for the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI), teaching litigation skills at various Attorneys General Offices around the country.听听

Prior to joining the Massachusetts Attorney General鈥檚 Office, Sweeney was an Assistant Attorney General and General Counsel to the House of Representatives in New Hampshire.

Sweeney is a 1983 graduate of Boston College Law School, cum laude, and a 1979 graduate of Providence College, magna cum laude.听
