Update on Impact of CrowdStrike IT Outage听
On July 19, 2024 there were numerous large-scale IT outages affecting many different industries. The issue was isolated to customers of Crowdstrike, a cybersecurity service provider.听听
The outages were the result of a defect in an update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts were not impacted. This was not a cyberattack.
Boston College is not a customer of CrowdStrike.听 However, a few vendors used by Boston College have had minor issues due to CrowdStrike. For example, StarRez (used for Residence Hall information) has reported some of its North American customers may still be experiencing intermittent interruptions, though at present Boston College is not among听them.
